AIRPORT TAX
As with arrivals, departures from Bali are similar for both domestic and international flights. Check-in counters for all departures are on the ground level, next to the arrival halls. You must pass through a security check to enter the departure building. After checking in for your flight, you proceed upstairs to the departure lounges. Before reaching these, you will need to purchase a departure tax coupon. The departure tax is 30,000 Rupiah (2.40 USD) for domestic flights and 150,000 (12.00 USD) for international flights. International passengers will need to go through passport control immediately after paying the departure tax.

You must pass through a second security scan to access your gate. Passing this scan generally requires that you remove your belt and watch. After passing the scan, you need to hand in your immigration departure card and boarding pass.

AIRPORT CHECK-IN TIME
Please arrive in proper time at the airport terminal as this will ensure that your flight operates on schedule. Check local road conditions to avoid possible delay. To enable preflight formalities to be concluded, have your baggage screened and check-in at Ngurah Rai International Airport at least 2 hours before scheduled departure.

RECONFIRMATION OF BOOKINGS
You are required to contact the airline reservation office or its appointed agent for reconfirmation of your outward or return flight at least 72 hours before its scheduled departure time. Failure to do so may result in your reservation being cancelled. The 10th SEASC 2009 Official Hospitality Organizer is providing this service.

CURRENCY
The Indonesian unit of currency is the Rupiah (Rp / IDR). Bank notes come in denominations of Rp 100.000, Rp 50.000, Rp 20.000, Rp 10.000, Rp 5.000 and Rp 1.000. The Indonesian unit of currency is the Rupiah (Rp/IDR). Notes come in denominations of Rp 100.000, Rp 50.000, Rp 20.000, Rp 10.000, Rp 5.000 and Rp 1.000. There are coins worth Rp 500, Rp 100, Rp 50, and Rp 25 (although the last two have very little value).

Please note that the usual practice of writing the currency is similar to the European custom by using dots for thousands and commas as decimal points. However, since the sen (cent) is no longer of value, a dash will follow the decimal point. For example, an item priced ten thousand rupiahs will be written Rp 10.000,-

Please also note that in colloquial language most Indonesians omit the 'thousand' when mentioning prices. Thus an item of Rp 45.000,- will often just be mentioned as 'forty-five'.

The exchange rate (as of March 2009) is approximately as follows: US$ 1 = Rp 12,000,- Foreign currency, whether in banknotes or traveler's checks, should be exchanged at major banks or authorized money changers. Exchange rates offered by money changers are generally better than the banks; they also stay open longer and transactions are quicker. Look around for variable exchange rates advertised on boards along the footpaths or windows outside shops. Always ask about any commission imposed before the exchange as many money changers with better rates often charge a small commission.

CREDIT CARDS & CASH
Hotels, department stores and other major establishments generally accept all internationally known credit cards. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted by most of the larger businesses. You sign the amount in rupiah and the bill is converted into your domestic currency by your bank according to US dollar exchange rate.

It is advisable to keep lots of small change for paying public transport, food, and other smaller businesses. Many smaller businesses may even ask you to pay using small change.

UTILITIES
Most hotels use 220 volts, 50 cycles and a round, two-pronged slim plug. Bathroom shaver plugs usually have a transformer switch. We suggest bringing an adaptor for your computer and other appliances.

BUSINESS HOURS
Government offices are open from 08:00am to 04:00pm. They are close on Saturdays and Sundays. Private offices are generally open from 8:30am to 4:30pm on week-days and some open from 8:30am to 12:00pm on Saturdays. Most shopping centers are open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm. Restaurants, café, coffee shops and other night life places are open mostly 24 hours. Shortened government office hours operate during the fasting month of Ramadhan.

DRUG ABUSE
The trafficking and illegal importation of drugs and other similar items are very serious offences in Indonesia. The penalty for such offences is death.
